1
EN Amen, amen, I say to you: He that enters not by the door into the sheepfold but climbs up another way, the same is a thief and a robber.
^1
2
EN But he that enters in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
^2
3
EN To him the porter opens: and the sheep hear his voice. And he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.
^3
4
LA Et cum proprias oves emiserit, ante eas vadit: et oves illum sequuntur, quia sciunt vocem ejus.
EN And when he has let out his own sheep, he goes before them: and the sheep follow him, because they know his voice.
^4
5
EN But a stranger they follow not, but fly from him, because they know not the voice of strangers.
^5
6
EN This proverb Jesus spoke to them. But they understood not what he spoke.
^6
7
LA Dixit ergo eis iterum Jesus: Amen, amen dico vobis, quia ego sum ostium ovium.
EN Jesus therefore said to them again: Amen, amen, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
^7
8
EN All others, as many as have come, are thieves and robbers: and the sheep heard them not.
^8
9
EN I am the door. By me, if any man enter in, he shall be saved: and he shall go in and go out, and shall find pastures.
^9
10
EN The thief comes not, but for to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and may have it more abundantly.
^10
11
LA Ego sum pastor bonus. Bonus pastor animam suam dat pro ovibus suis.
EN I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives his life for his sheep.
^11
12
LA Mercenarius autem, et qui non est pastor, cujus non sunt oves propriæ, videt lupum venientem, et dimittit oves, et fugit: et lupus rapit, et dispergit oves;
EN But the hireling and he that is not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flies: and the wolf casts and scatters the sheep,
^12
13
EN and the hireling flies, because he is a hireling: and he has no care for the sheep.
^13
14
EN I am the good shepherd: and I know mine, and mine know me.
^14
15
EN As the Father knows me, and I know the Father: and I lay down my life for my sheep.
^15
16
EN And other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring. And they shall hear my voice: And there shall be one fold and one shepherd.
^16
17
LA Propterea me diligit Pater: quia ego pono animam meam, ut iterum sumam eam.
EN Therefore does the Father love me: because I lay down my life, that I may take it again.
^17
18
LA Nemo tollit eam a me: sed ego pono eam a meipso, et potestatem habeo ponendi eam, et potestatem habeo iterum sumendi eam. Hoc mandatum accepi a Patre meo.
EN No man takes it away from me: but I lay it down of myself. And I have power to lay it down: and I have power to take it up again. This commandment have I received of my Father.
^18
19

EN A dissension rose again among the Jews for these words.
^19
20
GR ἔλεγον δὲ πολλοὶ ἐξ αὐτῶν: δαιμόνιον ἔχει καὶ μαίνεται: τί αὐτοῦ ἀκούετε;
EN And many of them said: He has a devil and is mad. Why hear you him?
^20
21
GR ἄλλοι ἔλεγον: ταῦτα τὰ ῥήματα οὐκ ἔστιν δαιμονιζομένου: μὴ δαιμόνιον δύναται τυφλῶν ὀφθαλμοὺς ἀνοῖξαι;
LA Alii dicebant: Hæc verba non sunt dæmonium habentis: numquid dæmonium potest cæcorum oculos aperire?
EN Others said: These are not the words of one that has a devil. Can a devil open the eyes of the blind?
^21
22

^23
24
LA Circumdederunt ergo eum Judæi, et dicebant ei: Quousque animam nostram tollis? si tu es Christus, dic nobis palam.
EN The Jews therefore came round about him and said to him: How long do you hold our souls in suspense? If you be the Christ, tell us plainly.
^24
25
LA Respondit eis Jesus: Loquor vobis, et non creditis: opera quæ ego facio in nomine Patris mei, hæc testimonium perhibent de me:
EN Jesus answered them: I speak to you, and you believe not: the works that I do in the name of my Father, they give testimony of me.
^25
26
EN But you do not believe, because you are not of my sheep.
^26
27
EN My sheep hear my voice. And I know them: and they follow me.
^27
28
EN And I give them life everlasting: and they shall not perish for ever. And no man shall pluck them out of my hand.
^28
29

EN That which my Father has given me is greater than all: and no one can snatch them out of the hand of my Father.
^29
30
GR ἐγὼ καὶ ὁ πατὴρ ἕν ἐσμεν.
LA Ego et Pater unum sumus.
EN I and the Father are one.
^30

EN Jesus answered them: Many good works I have showed you from my Father. For which of those works do you stone me?
^32
33
EN The Jews answered him: For a good work we stone you not, but for blasphemy: and because that you being a man, make yourself God.
^33
34
GR ἀπεκρίθη αὐτοῖς ὁ Ἰησοῦς: οὐκ ἔστιν γεγραμμένον ἐν τῷ νόμῳ ὑμῶν ὅτι ἐγὼ εἶπα: θεοί ἐστε;
LA Respondit eis Jesus: Nonne scriptum est in lege vestra, Quia ego dixi: Dii estis?
EN Jesus answered them: Is it not written in your law: I said, you are gods?

LA quem Pater sanctificavit, et misit in mundum vos dicitis: Quia blasphemas, quia dixi: Filius Dei sum?
EN Do you say of him whom the Father has sanctified and sent into the world: You blaspheme; because I said: I am the Son of God?
^36
37
EN If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not.
^37
38
