LA Obsecro itaque vos fratres per misericordiam Dei, ut exhibeatis corpora vestra hostiam viventem, sanctam, Deo placentem, rationabile obsequium vestrum.
EN I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercy of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, pleasing unto God, your reasonable service.
^1
2
EN And be not conformed to this world: but be reformed in the newness of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and the acceptable and the perfect will of God.
^2
3
EN For I say, by the grace that is given me, to all that are among you, not to be more wise than it behoves to be wise, but to be wise unto sobriety and according as God has divided to every one the measure of faith.
^3
4
EN For as in one body we have many members, but all the members have not the same office:
^4
5
EN So we, being many, are one body in Christ; and every one members one of another:
^5
6
LA Habentes autem donationes secundum gratiam, quæ data est nobis, differentes: sive prophetiam secundum rationem fidei,
EN And having different gifts, according to the grace that is given us, either prophecy, to be used according to the rule of faith;
^6
7
LA sive ministerium in ministrando, sive qui docet in doctrina,
EN or ministry, in ministering; or he that teaches, in doctrine;
^7
8
LA qui exhortatur in exhortando, qui tribuit in simplicitate, qui præest in sollicitudine, qui miseretur in hilaritate.
EN he that exhorts, in exhorting; he that gives, with simplicity; he that rules, with carefulness; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
^8
9
LA Dilectio sine simulatione: odientes malum, adhærentes bono:
EN Let love be without dissimulation. Hating that which is evil, cleaving to that which is good,
^9
10
LA caritate fraternitatis invicem diligentes: honore invicem prævenientes:
EN loving one another with the charity of brotherhood: with honour preventing one another.
^10
11
EN In carefulness not slothful. In spirit fervent. Serving the Lord.
^11
12
LA spe gaudentes: in tribulatione patientes: orationi instantes:
EN Rejoicing in hope. Patient in tribulation. Instant in prayer.
^12
13
LA necessitatibus sanctorum communicantes: hospitalitatem sectantes.
EN Communicating to the necessities of the saints. Pursuing hospitality.
^13
14
EN Bless them that persecute you: bless, and curse not.
^14
15
LA Gaudere cum gaudentibus, flere cum flentibus:
EN Rejoice with them that rejoice: weep with them that weep.
^15
16
EN Being of one mind one towards another. Not minding high things, but consenting to the humble. Be not wise in your own conceits.
^16
17
EN To no man rendering evil for evil. Providing good things, not only in the sight of God but also in the sight of all men.
^17
18
EN If it be possible, as much as is in you, have peace with all men.
^18
19
EN Revenge not yourselves, my dearly beloved; but give place unto wrath, for it is written: Revenge is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.
^19
20
EN But if the enemy be hungry, give him to eat; if he thirst, give him to drink. For, doing this, you shall heap coals of fire upon his head.
^20
21
LA Noli vinci a malo, sed vince in bono malum.
EN Be not overcome by evil: but overcome evil by good.
