Ecumenical Councils #catechesis/councils
Up: Catechesis
Land here when the user asks: what happened at a council, or what a council taught, defined,
decreed, condemned or anathematised; about Nicaea I or II, Constantinople I–IV, Ephesus, Chalcedon,
Lateran I–V, Lyons I–II, Vienne, Constance, Florence, Trent, Vatican I or Vatican II; about a
creed, canon, decree, session or dogmatic constitution; about how a doctrine was formally settled —
the Trinity, the two natures of Christ, icons and iconoclasm, the filioque, justification and the
Reformation response, transubstantiation, papal primacy and infallibility, religious liberty, or
the modern liturgical reforms.
All 21 councils, Nicaea I (325) → Vatican II (1965), 67 notes in one tree, numbered in order so
the folder listing is a timeline. The big two have their own MOCs:
Trent (27 notes — the sessions, decrees and canons) and
Vatican II (all 16 documents). Councils with a
single surviving document sit as one note in their numbered folder.

Sources differ by era. The ancient seven and Trent are public domain; several medieval and modern
texts are reproduced for personal study and carry share: false. Leave those flags alone — a
build flag reads them to produce a distributable edition.
