Confession is not a medieval invention beside Scripture — it is the Old Covenant sin offering arrived at its fullness: the sin named, brought to a priest, and forgiven by God through his ministry. The authority was conferred with a breath the Greek deliberately echoes from creation — and only God forgives sins; the Church says so in three words.
